NCAA TO SANCTION AIRLINE FOR USE OF UNAUTHORISED EQUIPMENT

The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt.Muhtar Usman has instituted a full scale investigation into a blatant violation of extant Regulations by an airline operator.

According to the DG, reports reaching the Regulatory Authority show that an airline operator operating a non – scheduled flight to one of the nation’s airport deployed an unauthorised equipment at the conclusion of the operation.

The operators of the aircraft took global aviation back to primitive days by utilising a ladder for the purpose of disembarking and boarding passengers.

Capt.Usman is therefore miffed by this flagrant violation of Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs) and consequently investigation is ongoing to ascertain if the act was a deliberate violation or force majeure.

However, if found culpable, the DG will have no choice but to recourse to the full weight of applicable sanctions on the erring airline.

The NCAA on the heels of this violation wishes to warn all operating airlines to ensure absolute adherence with Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) as well as Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs).

The Authority is reiterating that it will not hesitate to clamp down on violators. Our responsibility is to ensure a safe and secure air transport operation and we view it as sacrosanct.

SIGNED.

CAPT. MUHTAR USMAN,

DIRECTOR GENERAL,

NIGERIAN CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY (NCAA).
