Born on 26TH July, 1958, Alhaji Saruku Abubakiri Olaniyi is an indigene of Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area, Oyo State.
He began his education at Okeho-Iganna Grammar School, Oyo State, Nigeria where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC). He later proceeded to the prestigious Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State for both his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration.
Alhaji Saruku Abubakiri Olaniyi attended Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria for a Master Degree programme in Marketing & Business Strategy.
His professional qualifications include Diploma in Airport Strategic Management from International Air Transport Association (IATA); Certificate in Civil Aviation Management from Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA)/ National University of Singapore (NUS); and Air Transport Specialist Certificate at Civil Aviation Training School, Embaba, Cairo, Egypt.
Alhaji Saruku Abubakiri Olaniyi has held different positions where he performed creditably. As a pioneer officer, he has traversed different aviation agencies and risen through the ranks as Air Transport Statistical Officer at the defunct Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FCAA), Ikeja; Principal Commercial Officer at Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Ikeja-Lagos; and Assistant Chief Commercial Officer at Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Ikeja-Lagos.
He joined services of NCAA in the Year 2002 as Chief Air Transport Officer, Chief Air Transport Officer to become Asst. General Manager (Air Transport Operations), Deputy General Manager (Air Transport Operations) and General Manager (Air Transport Operations) before he retired in 2018 after a meritorious service.
To his credit, he covered such special assignments as Focal Points for both ICAO and YD/SAATM.
Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory body for aviation in Nigeria. It became autonomous with the passing into law of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 by the National Assembly and assent of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Act not only empowers the Authority to regulate Aviation Safety without political interference, but also to carry out oversight functions of Airports, Airspace, Meteorological Services, etc as well as economic regulations of the industry.
