Engr. Abatan Gbolahan Olusegun is a seasoned aircraft maintenance engineer and private pilot with great wealth of experience both in line and base maintenance.
He holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Leadership & Strategic Management/2022 Award (Honorary) from Maverick Business Academy, London as well as ICAO Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT). Zaria.
Before his appointment as the Director of Air Worthiness Standards (DAWS), Engr. Abatan Gbolahan Olusegun served as the President of Airfirst Nigeria Limited (ANL) and Airfirst Maintenance & Engineering (AFME) carrying out quality aircraft maintenance & engineering, management and several general aviation businesses.
Besides possessing an array of aircraft type ratings, his over 30-year experience in aviation which covers such areas as avionics, airframes and engines has earned him a lot of respect among his peers. In addition, he has headed the maintenance unit of various aviation outfits where major aircraft maintenance up to D-check level was carried out successfully. He was also involved in aircraft interior refurbishment, painting, modifications, etc.
Engr. Abatan had brief stint with Aero Contractors Company of Nigeria Limited where he majored in managing the maintenance of the hawker series aircraft in their fleet. Upon disengagement, he teamed up with other colleagues to set up Top Brass Aviation. Afterwards, he focused on his core competence of aircraft maintenance by establishing and living his dream of Airfirst Maintenance and Engineering Ltd.
Aside the aircraft maintenance activities, he has also been engaged by different private organizations as a key aviation consultant.

He also has license with type ratings in Airframe, Powerplant and Avionics. In addition, he designated NCAA Maintenance Ratings Examiner in Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Examiner, HS-125 Series, Embraer 120 Series, Cessna 172 Land Plane, Cessna Caravan 208/208b and Air Tractor Series. In addition, he holds several certificates in Quality and Safety Management.
In addition, Capt. Abatan possesses skills as good communicator with strong organizational/analytical skill; excellent planner and trouble shooter; maintenance programmer and quality management expert; a team player, self-motivator with leadership content.
Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory body for aviation in Nigeria. It became autonomous with the passing into law of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 by the National Assembly and assent of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Act not only empowers the Authority to regulate Aviation Safety without political interference, but also to carry out oversight functions of Airports, Airspace, Meteorological Services, etc as well as economic regulations of the industry.
