Retired Air Commodore Hambali Tukur was born on 7th October, 1960 in the town of Katsina, Katsina State, Nigeria. He attended Federal Government College, Sokoto before enlisting into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as an Officer Cadet of 25 Regular Course.
In the course of his stellar naval career, he attended different trainings in various institutions both at home and abroad. These include Precision Aerial Photography Course at Lowry Air Force Base, United States of America; Alpha Jet Gun Camera Course at Dornier Plant in Munich, Germany; and Young Officers' Course (Intelligence) at Nigerian Army Intelligence School, Apapa, Lagos. Other courses include Command and Staff Course at Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; Aviation Security and Hijack Management Course by AVSATEL; Security Management Course at ASCON, Badagry and Higher Defence and Strategic Studies at the National Defence College, Abuja.
Air Comm. Hambali Tukur (Rtd.) holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Photogrammetry from Kaduna Polytechnic and a Master Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan. He is in addition a fellow of the National Defence College. Abuja.
Some of the appointments held by Air Commodore Tukur (Rtd.) include Command Intelligence Officer at Tactical Air Command, Makurdi; Deputy Commandant Defence Intelligence College, Abuja; and Pioneer Commander of 55 Forward Operations Base of the Nigerian Air Force, Sokoto.
During his career in the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Tukur (Rtd.) had been decorated with several medals which include Forces Services Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS) and Distinguished Service Star (DSS). He had also been decorated with the ECOMOG Medal for his tour of duty during the ECOMOG Peace Enforcement Operations in Liberia.
Following his retirement in 2014 after 35 years of active service, Air Commodore Tukur was appointed as the Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for the Assessment of Aviation Security (AVSEC) in Nigeria by Federal Ministry of Transportation.
He is a lover of sport, enjoys playing Badminton as well as aircraft modelling.
Retired Air Commodore Hambali Tukur is happily married and blessed with children.
Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory body for aviation in Nigeria. It became autonomous with the passing into law of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 by the National Assembly and assent of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Act not only empowers the Authority to regulate Aviation Safety without political interference, but also to carry out oversight functions of Airports, Airspace, Meteorological Services, etc as well as economic regulations of the industry.
