Nigeria Hosts the Seventh Edition, of AFI Region Aviation Week


The Federal Ministry of Aviation (FMA) in conjunction with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will be hosting the Directors General of Civil Aviation Authorities, Aviation Safety and Security Representatives, Aviation Experts of African-Indian Ocean (AFI) Region Member States, and other Representatives and experts from International/ Regional Organizations.

This global event which is seventh in its series is slated for Monday, 16th – Friday, 20th May, 2022 at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria.

This year’s AFI week will engage all participants in discussing important issues like progress made in implementing the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) global and regional Plan, enhancement of aviation performance in all ICAO strategic objectives, key priorities for the coming years, COVID-19 aviation recovery and building back better and the outcome of the ICAO High-Level Conference on COVID - 19 (HLCC) 2021 amongst others.

The grand opening and 9th DGCA Meeting will feature as follows:

  • DG, NCAA
  • Secretary General, Africa Civil Aviation Commission [AFCAC]
  • Commissioner Infrastructure – AUC
  • Senior Minister of State for Transport of Singapore
  • Secretary General – ICAO
  • Honourable Minister of Aviation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Hadi Sirika

The event will also cover several important meetings including: 

  • The Ninth (9) Meeting of the AFI Directors-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA/9).
  • The Twenty-Fifth (25) Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Safety in Africa (AFI Plan).
  • The Eleventh (11) Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Security and Facilitation in Africa (AFI SECFAL Plan)
  • Aviation Symposium

Attendance of this event will avail Directors-General of Civil Aviation Authorities the opportunity to brainstorm and chart a course aimed at further developing the appropriate strategies and providing the necessary actions to support the enhancement of the aviation system in Africa.

The highlight of this auspicious event will include signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Co-operative agreements between Nigeria and some notable countries.

Meanwhile only the opening session holding on Monday 16th of May is opened to the public after which the delegates will break into technical sessions. The closing ceremony will also be opened to the public.
