Today, the Director-General, Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Ona Najomo has flagged off the much-touted DGCA Sports Week 2025 at the NAF Base Sports Complex, Abuja.
No fewer than 300 athletes drawn from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority's five (5) regional offices, including its corporate headquarters, are expected to compete in the various outlined games, which was aimed at promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and improve the mental well-being of the personnel.
Delivering his keynote address, the chief host, Capt. Najomo appreciated all the staff for their participation, which is to foster togetherness, teamwork, and bonding.
The historic inter-regional games, commencing from June 23 - 28, the first ever in the NCAA's 25-year journey, are expected to witness a flurry of sporting activities such as football, chess, swimming, table tennis, and athletics.
The colourful event witnessed a deluge of goodwill messages by the Director, Corporate Services, Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca Aghadinazu, Chairman, NCAA Sports Club, Mr. Abdulrazak Sowunmi, Director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, and the National President, Federal Public Service Games (FEPSGA), Com. Aloku Amaebi, who was represented by Mr. Muibi Charles.
The highlight of day one was the presentation of the game torch to the DGCA, taking group photographs, and the march past by the respective teams, including the Eyo masquerade and the Gbagi (host community) cultural displays.
There was also a novelty football match between team Abuja regional office and their counterparts at the Abuja corporate headquarters, which was captained by the DPA&CP, Mr. Michael Achimugu, as a ‘celebrity player.’
The match ended 2-2.
