The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has conducted International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Basic Standard Training Programme (STP 123) for eight (8) new officers.
The Basic STP 123 is a standardized training package developed by ICAO for the aviation industry and endorsed by the contracting states to meet the industry's security needs at the basic security operations level.
These eight (8) participants for the five-day training which runs from Monday, November 9 to Friday, November 13, 2020 were drawn from the Abuja Corporate Headquarter and the Regional Offices, including Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt. It was held at the Authority's Headquarter Annex, Ikeja.
In his opening remarks, the Director General of NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu who was represented by the Director of Airworthiness Standards, Engr. Kayode Ajiboye reiterated his administration commitment to staff development and capacity building.
According to the DG, global aviation has witnessed emergence of large scale attacks against the safety and security of aviation workers, the travelling public, the airports, aircraft and other air navigation facilities. Hence it is crucial for AVSEC personnel to equip them in their safety and security oversight responsibilities as counter-measures to these heinous acts can only be effective and efficient when the people responsible receive appropriate training to carry out their jobs. As a result, he assured that NCAA will do all it can in making their job seamless through requisite trainings.
While welcoming the new entrants, Head, AVSEC Department, Mr Akoja Okplefu tasked them to take the training with all seriousness by ensuring that they actively participate in the training so at to be eminently qualified as AVSEC Officers.
The Head, AVSEC Training & Certification, Mr Amasa Peter in his own welcome address expressed his deep appreciation to the management of NCAA for giving highest priority to capacity building. He stated that the training is to acquaint the participants with their statutory functions as aviation security personnel prior to being involved in the monitoring and surveillance activities at the nation's airports.
The training programme was anchored by Mr. Amasa Peter Olatunde, an ICAO Certified AVSEC Instructor and Mrs. Agbamuche Mercy, NCAA Certified AVSEC Instructor.
Prominent among those present are Mr. Wole Oludare (Head, Quality Control) and Mrs. Otubusen Oluwakemi (Head, Evaluation and Approval).
Participants for Basic STP 123 training course include Aminu Magaji (Abuja Region), Sani Mahmud Sani (Kano Region), Usman Abdullahi (Abuja Region) and Ezinwo Chikaire (Port Harcourt Region).
In their ilk are Bello Tosin (Lagos Region), Maccido Mouktar (Abuja Region), Salihu Ibrahim Khalil (Kano Region) and Ismaila Sani (Kano Region).
