NCAA HOLDS 2026 AVIATION SECURITY STRATEGIC MEETING image

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), through its Directorate of Aviation Security Regulations (DAVSEC), held its 2026 Aviation Security Strategic Meeting in Abuja, between 20th and 23rd July, 2026.

The four-day meeting, which brought together management and technical personnel of the Directorate, is to review aviation security oversight activities, assess the implementation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Universal Security Audit Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), evaluate departmental performance, and strengthen the Directorate’s regulatory framework.

In his welcome address, the Director, Dr. Bernard Omogo, described the meeting as a strategic platform to assess progress, address emerging challenges and enhance aviation security oversight in line with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). 

He noted that the implementation of Quality Management Systems (QMS), the review of oversight tools and the harmonisation of operational procedures would further strengthen the Directorate’s effectiveness in carrying out its regulatory responsibilities.

Highlights of the meeting included presentations on Quality Management Systems (QMS) in Aviation Security Operations; updates on the implementation of ICAO USAP-CMA Corrective Action Plans; reports from the Office of the DAVSEC; among others. 

Participants also deliberated on legal and administrative enforcement procedures, regional office operations, report writing, and the categorisation of audits and inspections.

The strategic meeting further featured practical sessions on the review and harmonisation of oversight tools, audit procedures, inspection checklists and guidance materials, as well as the collation of proposed amendments to national aviation security documents.
