The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority convened a stakeholders' meeting at its Kano Regional Office to address concerns regarding passengers denied boarding by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) despite having completed airline check-in procedures and possessing valid travel documents.
In his opening remarks during a consultative engagement held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Regional Manager, Alhaji Ango Shehu Mohammad, emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration and coordinated working relationships among stakeholders in line with the position of the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo.
He expressed concern about the recurring issues hindering seamless passenger facilitation and airport operations, urging stakeholders to discharge their duties professionally to avoid operational disruptions, financial losses, and passenger inconvenience.
Responding, the Comptroller of Immigration Service, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano Command, Comptroller Issa Adebayo Olaniyan, represented by Deputy Comptroller Mansur Usman, highlighted the command's mandate, including prevention of illegal migration, human trafficking, and other cross-border crimes, emphasizing the paramount importance of security considerations in passenger processing.
Mr Doka Nyam, the Airspace Manager, MAKIA, Kano, called for a meeting between NIS and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to define their lines of duty and avoid unnecessary duplication and confusion.
He also reiterated the need for close collaboration among stakeholders.
All parties commit to improving information sharing, enhancing inter-agency cooperation, and adopting measures to ensure seamless facilitation of passengers and goods.
