NCAA ORGANIZES A SEMINAR FOR AUTHORIZED AVIATION MEDICAL EXAMINERS AND AVIATION STAKEHOLDERS image
The Directorate of Operations, Licensing and Training Standards (DOLTS) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) organized a seminar for Authorized Aviation Medical Examiners and Aviation Stakeholders.
The event took place recently at the NCAA Training Hall, Annex, Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme: Psychoactive Substances: Effects on Aircrew and Aviation Workers.
In his opening speech, the Director General NCAA, Captain Chris Ona Najomo, who was represented by the NCAA Lagos Regional Manager, Barr. Bukola Teriba welcomed the participants and emphasized that the seminar came at a very crucial time for the Aviation industry, to enable the Authority enforce compliance with the NCAA Technical Guidance Material (TGM) Vol 2, which requires the Authority to conduct an annual seminar for its designee Authorized Aviation Medical Examiners (AAMEs) in the Aviation industry.
He further stated that the seminar aimed to provide the AAMEs with relevant updates on Air Crew Medical Standards and help in industry practice.
Speaking in her capacity as the NCAA Lagos Regional Manager, Barr. Bukola Teriba welcomed the participants to the region, laying emphasis on the importance of the training. The RM assured the participants of the NCAA's goodwill and hospitality.
Captain Manasa Haruna, the General Manager, Licensing, who represented Captain Donald Spiff, the Director (DOLTS), admonished the participants to take the training seriously and be ready to draw on the depth of knowledge to be shared during the training.
The Head of Aeromedical Standards, Dr. Esther Shittu, in her speech, appreciated the participants from various regions for attending the training and affirmed that specialists have been carefully selected to impart the required knowledge, which will enhance the safety management system and make the sky safer.
Highlights of the events were sessions handled by several presenters as follows: Dr. Adetunji Adeyinka - Psychoactive Substances in Aviation Types/Testing, Dr. Olushola Olibamoyo - Psychiatric Effects of Psychoactive Substances Abuse, Professor Yomi Oguns - Neurological Effects of Psychoactive Substances.
 Finally, Dr. Adedayo Oshilowo spoke on Medical Assistant/Medical Escort in Airlines Operations.
